Privacy: what happens to a bill after you drop it

Files are processed in memory and deleted after conversion. Pages that need a second look may be sent to Google's Gemini API, where Google may keep them for up to 55 days. Uploads are not used for training.

Free: 1 file per day, up to 10 pages, no account.

The short version

You drop a bill, the site reads it, checks the arithmetic and gives you CSV files. We do not keep your bills, the text read from them or the CSV files we produce. The edits you make and the downloads you take happen in your browser.

Your bill does pass through a few services on the way: the host of this site, the service that reads the file, and, for pages that need a second look, Google. They are listed below with what each one does.

What happens to a file, step by step

  1. Your browser sends the file

The file goes over HTTPS to this site's conversion endpoint, together with a random device id and, if you saved one, your page code.

  2. The edge function passes it on

The function that runs on Cloudflare forwards the file to the conversion service, with the device id and your IP address so that the daily free allowance can be counted, and your page code if you saved one. It does not store the file.

  3. The service reads it in memory

The file is read in memory. A page that needs a second look may be sent to Google's Gemini API for a vision check.

  4. The text comes back and is checked

The text read from your file returns to the edge function, which checks the arithmetic and builds the CSV files. They are sent to your browser and are not stored.

  5. The file is deleted

The service deletes the file after conversion. Google may keep a page it was sent for up to 55 days under its own terms.

Questions people ask

Do you keep my files?

No. Files are processed in memory and deleted after conversion. We do not keep a copy of your bills, of the text read from them, or of the CSV files. The one exception is outside our hands: Google may keep a page that was sent for a second look for up to 55 days under its terms.

Does Google see my bills?

Only the pages that need a second look. When the reader is unsure about a page, that page may be sent to Google's Gemini API for a vision check. Google may keep it for up to 55 days under its terms. We cannot tell you in advance which pages will need it, so treat any file you upload as one that might be sent.

Are my uploads used to train anything?

No. We do not use uploads to train models, and we do not sell or share them for training.

Which services touch my file?

Cloudflare hosts this site and runs the function that receives your file. Modal provides the compute that reads the file. Google provides the Gemini API for the vision check on pages that need it. A payment provider handles subscriptions once online checkout opens, and this page will name it. Each runs in data centres of its own choosing, which may be outside your country.

What does my browser store?

Three things, all in your browser's local storage: a random device id used to count the free daily allowance, your Export options (such as the account name you typed), and your page code if you saved one. None of it leaves your browser except the device id and the page code, which are sent with each file. Clear the site's data in your browser to remove all three.

Does the site use cookies or trackers?

The site sets no cookies and loads no third-party scripts. The typeface is served from this site, not from a font service. Cloudflare, which hosts the site, keeps ordinary request logs as any host does.

Why do you need my IP address and a device id?

To count the free allowance of 1 file per day without making you create an account. The edge function forwards the IP address and the device id to the conversion service for that purpose. Neither is used to build a profile of you.

How is my page code protected?

It is stored in your browser's local storage and sent over HTTPS only to this site's conversion endpoint, which passes it to the conversion service so your pages can be counted. Anyone who can open your browser profile could read it, so do not save it on a shared computer. Use Remove next to the code field to delete it.

Can I ask you to delete my data?

Your files are deleted automatically after conversion. For anything else, such as the email address on a subscription, write to [email protected] and say what you would like removed.

Is it safe for confidential bills?

Bills often hold business names, addresses and bank details, and sometimes personal data. Upload only documents you are allowed to share with the services listed above. If a bill is too sensitive for that, key it in by hand.
